11.10.22

 Tuesday 11th October 2022. Belo-sur-mer

As high tide was early we had to have breakfast at 6.30 ready to be picked up at 7am to be taken by boat to the mangroves.  We had hired two sit on kayaks so that we could explore.  The boat took us deep into the mangroves and we then transferred to our kayaks but had to just follow the main rather than going off on our own.  We didn't see much wildlife except a heron but it was stunning and really peaceful. We kayaked for over an hour, ending the trip by kayaking across the water to a nomadic village before jumping back on the boat to head back to the hotel.  We were back by 9.15am so we had the whole day ahead of us to relax in the sun.

Apart from wandering over to the restaurant for lunch we spent the whole day lazing on the beach or sitting on the deck chairs or hammocks until late afternoon when the tide had come back in and we thought we should venture back out for a swim.  We were shocked when we got in that the water was bath temperature and it was almost impossible to swim as it was far too warm.

Laurence had made us a typical Malagasy meal for dinner of fish soup plus octopus, rice and vegetables which was fabulous.  Starter was beetroot and pepper salad and pudding a scrummy chocolate mousse.
